PS1 Signal Chain
Tracing a first-gen PlayStation's audio path to see how much of the noise floor is the console and how much is the chain after it.
The console is not the weakest link. The chain is: a DAC, a preamp, and whatever the capture card does to it on the way in.
What is left is a short list of candidate fixes, each with a measurement attached, and a working note on how the same chain behaves on a modern capture setup.
